How to find a taxi in Paris Region?

Paris, one of the most visited cities in the world, has a vast taxi network to help you travel quickly and conveniently around the city. Whether you live here or are just visiting, finding a taxi in Paris couldn’t be easier. In other countries, it may be custom to stop a taxi by waving your arm, but in the Paris Region and the rest of France, the method differs somewhat. You can still hail a taxi on the street if you notice one that’s available. You’ll know it’s free if there’s a green light on the sign placed on its roof.

Taxi booking centres

The taxi booking centres are a handy solution if you want to order a taxi in advance. You can contact them by phone, via a mobile app or through a website. With these services you can choose the type of vehicle, specify the number of passengers and sometimes request specific services like a baby seat or an adapted vehicle for a disabled person.

Adapted and NHS-approved taxis

NHS-approved taxis

These taxis have received specific approval from the French Social Security system to carry seated patients. They provide an essential service for people in need of transport for non-urgent medical appointments.

To locate an NHS-approved taxi service near you, contact the local public health insurance body, the Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie (CPAM). You can do this by phone, by dialling 3646, or by email via your online ‘Ameli’ account, if you have one.

NHS-approved taxis are easy to identify thanks to the blue logo they display on their rear windscreen (right-hand side of the vehicle) with the inscription ‘Taxi conventionné - Organismes d’assurance maladie’.

To book one, visit the website: https://www.taxisconventionnes.fr/demande-de-reservation-taxi-conventionne.

Adapted taxis

For people with mobility issues, adapted taxis are available that are specially equipped to transport wheelchair users safely. These special taxis often need to be booked in advance. The Paris taxi fleet includes around 150 equipped vehicles. The same regulated fares apply as for standard taxi services.

For more details of taxis accessible to disabled persons, visit the website: https://www.g7.fr/decouvrez-nos-services-taxis/g7-access-taxi-pmr.

PAM francilien

PAM Francilien is an adapted travel service that operates like a taxi for disabled persons. It offers reduced fares subsidised by the Île-de-France regional authority. Available 7 days a week, from 6am until midnight. PAM Francilien has also joined forces with the association ‘Viens je t’emmène’ to organise EscaPam cultural and recreational outings.

Taxi fares

The cost of a taxi journey in Paris depends on a number of factors, such as the distance covered, the time spent in the vehicle and any extra charges for luggage, night-time trips and so on.

To find out more about fares, check the list of flat-rate charges on the G7 website: https://www.g7.fr/en/paris-taxi-fares.

What to do if you leave something in a taxi?

If you lose any item in a taxi, contact the taxi firm or the driver as quickly as possible. Most taxi companies have a standard procedure for lost property. Keep the taxi receipt as it may contain vital information to help trace the vehicle.

How do you recognise a Parisian taxi?

In Paris, taxis are part and parcel of the urban landscape. You’ll get around the city more efficiently if you know how to identify them and which ones are available. Here are a few key elements you should know.

Parisian taxis have specific features that help you to recognise them. Firstly, all official vehicles display a taxi licence plate, which is usually fixed to the bonnet. This white plate has black round the edges and features a unique serial number that can be used to check that the vehicle is a registered taxi. In addition, Parisian taxis have a light fitted to the roof of the vehicle. This light, sometimes known as a ‘lantern’, is a key indicator to passengers.

The easiest way to determine whether a Parisian taxi is available is to look at its roof light. If the taxi is free, it displays a green light. If, on the other hand, the light is off or is red, this means the taxi is either occupied or not in service.
