Le Syndicat
Description
Since it opened in 2014, the highly original Syndicat bar has become a favourite haunt of regular customers and newcomers alike. With its speakeasy atmosphere and explosive hip-hop music, this hidden gem makes a whole art of mixing cocktails.
A trendy speakeasy-style bar in the Strasbourg Saint-Denis district
It’s the end of the afternoon and you’re walking along Rue du Faubourg Saint-Denis, near the Château d’Eau metro station. At no. 51, you notice a billboard announcing concert dates.
Somebody walks up to it and reveals the presence of a door that you’d never have otherwise suspected. Curious, you follow him. As soon as you step through the door, you find yourself in another world, soaking up the clandestine atmosphere of the Syndicat. This bar, a real institution in the local area, also goes by the name of Établissement du Syndicat des Alcools Français.
Soft carpet, gold-coloured curtains with a metallic shine, shelves packed with spirits… The warm, subdued atmosphere of the Syndicat is an invitation to unwind. Behind the counter, the busy staff move around to the beat of a carefully-selected hip-hop playlist. You can tell instantly that standards are high here. No wonder this award-winning speakeasy is deemed to be one of the best bars in the world.
Unusual cocktails created by the very best French chefs
The bar list at Le Syndicat features all sorts of delicious cocktails with inventive names and unexpected flavours like rose, vetiver and sake, or rhubarb, black grapefruit, jurançon wine and gin. Six top French chefs helped to put this cocktail list together, including Michel Sarran, Adrien Cachot and Amandine Chaignot.
But there’s more! The bar staff will invite you to try some local products and forgotten wines. And their snacks are just as mouthwatering. Provence sweet-pepper cream and Barbary duck rillettes are just two tempting examples for your fabulous evening out with friends.
