Description
Inaugurated by Empress Eugenie in 1862, the Café de la Paix is at the crossroads of Parisian artistic life. Tourists, dancers, opera singers, writers and actors from neighbouring theatres rub shoulders here.
At all hours, a direct view of the Opera House
All around, the numerous theatres on the boulevards and the effervescence of the Grands Magasins create the heartbeat of this emblematic part of the capital. From a delicious morning croissant to an after-show supper, everyone comes to the Café de la Paix for a refined yet affordable respite.
From its terrace, you can enjoy an incomparable view of the Opéra Garnier. Inside, a different atmosphere welcomes you, under the warm gilding of the Second Empire.
What will you choose, seated at one of the café's marble tables: a strong espresso, a melting croque monsieur, a beautiful cheese plate or the famous mille-feuille? In their white and black livery, the waiters hurry around you, perpetuating the great tradition of French service.
French cuisine revisited
The Café de la Paix is also a well-known restaurant. Its Executive Chef Laurent André knows the art of reinventing the great classics, such as duck foie gras, tournedos or escargots de Bourgogne. Before tasting these must-tries, let yourself be tempted by the famous gratinée à l'oignon, which has been on the menu since 1862!
And if the call of the sea is very strong, the Banc de l'Écailler will delight you. A few of the most refined oysters — Gillardeau, Belon, Fine de Claire — a bunch of prawns, and why not half a lobster, accompanied by a glass of Pouilly-Fumé… time stops, for a delicious moment.
With its unique history and exceptional location opposite the Palais Garnier, the Café de la Paix is a flagship Parisian restaurant to discover during your stay, especially if you appreciate places that combine cuisine with heritage.
