Viarmes Local History Museum
Description
A reminder of the turn of a century, the local history museum in Viarmes takes you back in time, exploring how society has changed, and the impact this has had on our mindsets and our way of life. Up on the second floor of the town hall, the museum transports you back to the middle of the 19th century, to a time of berets and breeches.
A series of scenes from daily life are shown across 16 different areas, occupying a total of 400m2. In reconstructed settings reminiscent of yesteryear, objects, mannequins and clothing combine to bring the past to life. Find reproductions of 19th-century homes, trades and shops, as well as tools and games harking back to a bygone age. Whilst adults may find familiar items featured in the collection, younger visitors will be able to compare their own surroundings with those of their elders. Audio guides are also available that walk you through each of the museum’s different areas, giving you the chance to really make the most of your visit.
As you head from room to room, you’ll realise you’re finding out far more than the history of Viarmes: you’re discovering the story of the Oise - Pays de France Regional Natural Park and of an entire era, and bringing the present into focus with a short trip to the past.
