Thanks to the Paris 2024 Olympic & Paralympic Games, every district in the capital is now accessible to disabled people. But what about transport services? On the bus network, 540 routes and 15,400 stops are accessible to disabled persons. As are 29 stations on the metro network. In addition, solutions have been implemented for people who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind or visually impaired. Here’s all the key information about accessible transport in Île-de-France, to help you travel as freely as possible in the Paris Region.
Adapted public transport services
Firstly, be aware that all RATP and SNCF employees have been trained to use accessibility equipment and to assist people with disabilities.
Accessible metro lines
- 100% of stations are accessible to people with disabilities of every kind (but not wheelchairs).
- 216 lifts and 793 escalators.
- 29 stations are equipped for wheelchair users, even unaccompanied.
- Line 14 is 100% accessible with 21 stations.
- 8 stations on line 11.
- 68 stations on lines 15, 16 & 17.
- 18 more stations to be equipped by 2030.
For blind and visually impaired people, all stations are equipped with either platform doors (lines 1, 4, 13 & 14) or tactile warning strips (all other lines).
For the deaf and hard of hearing, some lines are equipped with dynamic visual announcement systems (lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 9, 13 & 14) and/or sound announcement systems (lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 13 & 14).
Accessible bus services
- 100% of bus routes in the capital, 65 routes in all, are accessible to people with disabilities and mobility issues.
- 296 bus routes accessible in the inner suburbs.
- 15,400 bus stops accessible.
- 540 inclusive bus routes in the inner and outer suburbs.
- Lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 equipped for unassisted wheelchair users.
- 100% of the bus network is equipped for visual and sound announcements.
Accessible trams
- 100% of city tram lines, 10 lines and 199 stops, accessible (low floors level with the platform).
- 100% of trams equipped with visual and sound announcement systems.
- Line T8 has a sign-language information system and visual information signs that operate continuously.
- Lines T4 & T11 are Cap’handéo certified, which means they are equipped to carry passengers with intellectual, mental, hearing or visual disabilities.
Accessible local train services
- All train stations boast Cap’handéo certification.
- 100% of stations on RER lines A & B accessible, a total of 65 stations with 169 lifts and 793 escalators.
- 97% of trains equipped for both visual and sound announcement systems.
- 100% of lines E, H, J, K, L & P accessible.
- The RER NG, Francilien, MI20 & Regio 2N lines equipped with a sound system to help the visually impaired obtain information and detect doors.
- Station staff on hand to help disabled people to access trains.
- 290 stations and stops accessible to people with all types of disability, including: 240 stations and 50 tram stops (lines T4, T11, T12, T13).
- The Regio 2N trains on lines N, R & D fully comply with PRM TSI standards (Technical Specifications of Interoperability relating to Persons with Reduced Mobility).
- Whatever the stations’ level of accessibility, disabled persons who are planning a journey can benefit from the “Accès Plus Transilien” assistance service.

PAM mobility assistance service
This public demand-responsive transport service was created by Île-de-France Mobilités in 2002 to make it easier for disabled people to get around. Operating 7 days a week from 6am until midnight (and in inner Paris, until 2am on Fridays & Saturdays), the PAM service is used by an average 12,000 travellers, for a total of 730,000 trips each year. The principle? A specialised driver arrives at your home with an adapted vehicle, to take you to your pre-determined destination.
Fares and conditions
To use this service, you must first request membership online, by mail, or at a PAM agency.
Once your membership is confirmed, you can book individual trips with the local agency, either by phone, mail or email, at least 48 hours ahead of travel. You can also book regular trips in advance.
The fare ranges from 2 to 14 euros, depending on the distance covered (one-way fare only).

Parisian taxis for the disabled
TAXI PMR is a taxi service designed specifically to enable people with mobility issues to travel in Paris and Île-de-France as well as to and from stations and airports (Paris-Charles de Gaulle, Paris-Orly, Paris-Beauvais-Tillé).
