Description

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of illusionist art with the exhibition ‘Le trompe-l'œil, from 1520 to the present day’ at the musée Marmottan Monet in Paris.

Until 2 March 2025**, this exhibition traces the development of this artistic technique, which plays with our perceptions and challenges our eyes.

A journey through the centuries

The exhibition features more than 80 significant works, ranging from the 16th to the 21st century, from prestigious collections in Europe and the United States. You'll be able to admire masterpieces by masters such as Louis Léopold Boilly, Henri Cadiou, and Michelangelo Pistoletto, who captured the essence of trompe-l'oeil with remarkable virtuosity.

A diversity of themes and mediums

Trompe-l'œil is not confined to paintings. The exhibition also explores its decorative applications, such as furniture and earthenware, as well as its political use during the revolutionary period. Each work is an invitation to discover the subtleties of this technique, which deceives both the eye and the mind.

A tribute to collectors

This exhibition pays tribute to Jules and Paul Marmottan, whose taste for trompe-l'œil enriched the museum's collections. Their passion for this art of illusion is reflected in the diversity and quality of the works on display.

Let yourself be carried away by the many exhibitions in Paris and the surrounding region.
