Description
If you're passionate about photography and human relationships, don't miss the exhibition ‘Family Ties’ by Tina Barney at the Jeu de Paume in Paris.
This retrospective, which runs from 28 September 2024 to 19 January 2025, highlights the vibrant and singular work of this influential American photographer, whose work has rarely been shown in France. The exhibition, which retraces 40 years of the artist's career, is the largest European retrospective to be devoted to her to date.
An exploration of family ties
Tina Barney is renowned for her large-format portraits, which capture inter-generational family rituals and the subtle nuances of human relationships. The exhibition presents 55 prints in colour and black and white, a mixture of commissioned works and personal creations, some of which have never been seen before. The models include celebrities such as the actress Julianne Moore as well as anonymous people close to the artist.
A plunge into intimacy
Barney's photographs offer an intimate insight into the lives of families on the East Coast of the United States, as well as European aristocrats and celebrities. Each image is carefully staged, revealing the dynamics and emotions that unite family members.
