Description
Drink in the delicious fragrances of this poetic haven located at the foot of the medieval city of Provins. In an enchanting garden adorned with meandering streams, you will learn everything there is to know about the history of the rose via over 300 varieties of roses arranged by theme in this 3.5-hectare garden.
In the name of the rose
You’ll discover modern roses, which bloom until autumn, as well as old garden roses, including Damask, Alba, centifolia, tea and Gallic hybrids. There is also the famous “Rosa gallica officinalis,” or “Rose of Provins,” an old rose variety first brought back from the crusades in 1240 by Theobald IV, Count of Champagne, and which later became one of the symbols of the city.
In addition, the medieval and medicinal “Simples” garden includes plants traditionally used for their health benefits. Dill, angelica and comfrey are just some examples you’ll find. Lastly, the charming tearoom has a sunny terrace, as well as a fireplace for cosy indoor dining.
Need an original gift idea? Stop by the garden shop for home décor and rose-related items, including, of course, beautiful roses.
