Description
“It feels like home, except that it’s better.” These few words didn’t appear out of nowhere, but were heard at Les Sept Lieux, the new hotspot that now occupies the former mail sorting office of Versailles. This converted post office now delights diners on the ground floor, invites you to feast your eyes on the 1st floor and, on the 2nd floor, send your brain into overdrive.
Hooves, guns and stamps, all at a single venue
In Yvelines, the Palace of Versailles may be the main attraction, but many other places are well worth a visit too. The town’s former post office is another building that has existed for hundreds of years. In the 17th century it was a riding arena for the Great Stables (now the Gallery of Coaches, it was a military barracks in the 19th and the HQ of the Legion of French Volunteers during the Occupation. After being bombarded in 1944, the building was converted into the famous mail sorting office which opened in 1963. Since July 2024, the winds of change have blown over this site. Postage stamps have yielded to beer mats and the Post Office posters have been replaced by artists’ paintings. Much to the delight of hedonists from the local region and beyond.
3 floors, 3 styles
The 2nd floor of the old post office into a venue for bookworms and students by the autumn of 2025. In association with the town’s network of libraries, this 650 m² space is being converted into a place of study and early childhood literacy. The cultural excitement continues one floor down, where a vast exhibition area hosts an eclectic programme. After all those artistic sensations, it’s time to unwind at the **Sept Lieux”.
Raise a glass at the Post Office counter
This food court features 3 food stands and huge tables arranged around a central bar. Take your pick from bistro dishes, street food or a Mediterranean menu. In summer, the venue takes on a guinguette atmosphere. Perfect for those long balmy evenings in Versailles to the supercharged sound of a DJ set.
At the Sept Lieux, pleasure isn’t only served up on a plate. If you enjoy belting out a song, come along for the weekly karaoke night. Fancy a bit of exercise? There’s yoga, salsa and piloxing (a subtle mix of pilates, boxing and dance), which should be enough to work up a sweat. And for a facial workout, there’s nothing quite like the weekly comedy club session… So, are you ready for the Sept Lieux experience?
Enjoy a taste of the good life at the alternative venues of the Paris Region.
