- Sequana boat-restoration workshops
Description
The association Sequana, created in 1990 in Chatou, restores and sometimes rebuilds identical boats from the canotage era: the yawls, perissoires, canoes, and other sailing boats which in the 19th century delighted Parisians eager for freedom and pleasure far from the well-thought-out society of the Second Empire, and the impressionist painters who enjoyed this jovial atmosphere. Always looking for more light, Monet, Manet, Degas, Caillebotte, Courbet set up their easels along these banks without forgetting Renoir who chose the restaurant Fournaise nearby for the decor of its famous Déjeuner des canotiers.
Run by a team of enthusiastic volunteers for "life on the river in the Île-de-France region", this is a whole era, but also a whole range of "know-how" that the association is striving to perpetuate thanks to historical research, but also by offering "restoration" and discovery workshops based on its formidable "boat collection". Its participation in various events and nautical festivals around the Seine is always eagerly awaited. Don't hesitate to consult the Association's website to make sure you don't miss any of these events.
Take advantage of your visit to discover the Fournaise Museum and go back in time to the period of the Impressionist painters!
