Description
Paul Poiret, couturier and pioneer, profoundly marked fashion by introducing fluid silhouettes and vibrant colours, freeing women from the restrictive clothes of the time.
The Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris is hosting a major hommage.
The multidisciplinary universe of a visionary designer
His fashion house, founded in 1903, caused a sensation with creations that emphasised freedom of movement and comfort. With an emphasis on natural, corset-free lines. With a style influenced by fauvism and orientalism, Poiret was able to transform fashion into an art form in its own right, a precursor of the art deco style.
In addition to his fashion creations, Paul Poiret ventured into different artistic fields. The exhibition also presents his collaborations with artists such as Raoul Dufy, his first launches of perfumes and his influence in the field of decorative arts, thanks in particular to his workshops.
The exhibition brings together clothing, textiles, furniture, drawings and photographs that testify to the extent of his talent and artistic ambition.
A legacy that continues to inspire today
The exhibition also highlights Poiret's impact on contemporary designers, with his style and innovative spirit still resonating in fashion today.
But Poiret's influence did not stop there. He was also the king of social evenings in the early 20th century. His sumptuous and eccentric parties are also evoked during the tour.
