Description
30 km east of Paris and less than 20 minutes from Disneyland® Paris,in the Domaine de Rentilly, an innovative venue for contemporary art hosts artist residencies, breathtaking exhibition halls, a theatre and a documentary resource centre - all in the midst of a glorious natural setting spanning 50 hectares.
Culture and Chlorophyll
For centuries the domain was a feudal estate, before becoming the private property of the Menier chocolate makers. In 2014 the Domaine de Rentilly was successfully transformed into a cultural venue. All the buildings on the estate were converted into spaces for art. The park’s most emblematic landmark is the chateau restored by artist Xavier Veilhan, now covered in a stunning shell of mirrors reflecting the surrounding greenery, while the interior has become a vast, double-story exhibition loft.
Don’t miss the temporary exhibits in the Turkish bath gallery with its ceramic ornamentation, or in the Trophy gallery, where an immense boiler sits amid the artwork.
Lastly, the performing arts are also of central importance in Rentilly, thanks to festivals like Autumn Jazz, Frisson Baroque (Baroque Thrill), and the multi-genres performances in the PrinTemps de Parole festival.
The Domaine de Rentilly Cultural Park is also - as the title suggests - an immense park, including an area of sumptuous French perspective-style landscaping, an English style park with its many different plant varieties, and a forest stretching across 15-hectares. A booklet on the various trees in the park is available in the documentary resource centre inside the former orangery.
