In a former barracks in Melun, behind the Gendarmerie’s trademark flaming grenade insignia, sits the Musée de la Gendarmerie Nationale.
A museum and an unusual visit for young and old alike
On a site spanning more than 1,400 m², discover the old police force through some 30,000 objects and documents on display. Period cars, firearms, uniforms and even the rifle from the Dominici affair will take you back in time on the trail of one of the oldest French institutions.
The visit is sprinkled with amusing anecdotes, games, sound and light. Thanks to a modern scenography, visioguides, game booklets, learn in a playful and educational way, the missions and history of the national gendarmerie. This unique collection covering the period from the Middle Ages to the present day can only pique the curiosity of young and old alike! A nice visit in perspective!
