Museum of Inland Navigation and Waterways
Description
In the Château du Prieuré, overlooking the stunning Seine Valley, the Musée de la Batellerie et des Voies Navigables is one of the biggest museums on the history of inland navigation, and the only national waterways museum in the world. Over the centuries, Conflans-Sainte-Honorine – originally a small riverside village where the Oise meets the Seine – has become a key location for inland navigation. You can trace the industry’s development here through a collection of works and items that is unique in Europe, together with loaned pieces from a number of major national museums.
Over 200 models, charts, engravings and scientific reconstructions tell the story of mechanised navigation, canal boats, traditional inland waterway transport in the region, and its role in the development of France. You’ll leave an expert on waterways, operating locks, river engineering, narrowboats, rivers and more.
A fun and educational visit for all the family!
