Musée Zadkine
Description
It is rare to find artists willing to open up their workspaces to the general public: and yet that was the last wish of Ossip Zadkine. An expatriate from Belarus, like Marc Chagall, the sculptor studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris at the start of the 20th century. That’s where he met Picasso, Apollinaire and Modigliani before setting up his studio on the Rue d’Assas, in a little patch of greenery between the Luxembourg Gardens and Montparnasse. There Zadkine lived and worked until his death in 1967. The museum, nestled in a verdant garden, aims to recapture as closely as possible the spirit of the artist’s atelier.
Displayed under the daylight flooding in through the studio’s glass roof, Zadkine’s works are organised thematically by material, creating a dialogue between sculptures in plaster, clay, wood and stone.
Your visit continues in the museums and cultural sites of Paris Region.
