Description

The Paris Mint has undergone a major renovation. Today this venerable institution, housed in an immense building completed in 1775 and facing the Louvre Museum across the Seine, has become one of the key cultural destinations in Paris.

A success due in part, perhaps, to its resplendent setting. Between the monumental staircase and the succession of rooms adorned with elegant woodwork and mirrors, art gets a royal reception here.

Medals for collectors

France’s oldest institution - founded in 864 and housed inside the Hôtel de Conti since the 18th century - continues to fulfil its initial mission: minting coins. Though official coinage of currency has taken place in Pessac since 1973, the Parisian workshops continue turning out commemorative, collectable coins available for sale in the boutique. A tour of the workshops shares all their artisanal manufacturing secrets, while highlighting French heritage and craftsmanship.

Guy Savoy at the Monnaie de Paris

Finally, the Monnaie de Paris offers you two lovely gastronomic parentheses. The great chef Guy Savoy has indeed transferred his eponymous three-star restaurant to the magnificent rooms on the first floor of the west wing, redesigned by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. The café frappé by Bloom offers you a lighter gourmet break with a la carte, products grown by local farmers. Excellence always!
