Maison des Métallos
Description
How can we describe the Maison des Métallos? It’s a tough one given that the cultural hub never stays the same for long, but this is where people come to learn, to give, to take and to share…
A strong industrial heritage
You realise as soon as you walk in that there’s no other place quite like this one. The huge skylights and exposed metal beams, reminders of an industrial past, set the tone. Originally a musical instrument factory and subsequently the headquarters of the CGT Métallurgie metalworkers’ union, over time the Maison des Métallos has morphed into an art and culture house offering something for everyone. The old workshops and mezzanines have been left intact, giving the building a flexible layout that encourages people to move about, and the vast open space brings all sorts of art forms together which, despite occasional clashes, eventually all learn to rub along.
Every month the space becomes home to a new artistic team, who work with the venue’s management to offer a fresh new take on creative license – both for artists and users. And, as the cherry on top of this culture-packed cake, you are invited to join us for one of our bimonthly “before” events: short, eclectic experiences designed to take you deep into an artist’s world.
A unique cultural concept which needs to be experienced to the full.
