Madame Arthur
Description
"Madame Arthur is a woman who made people talk, talk, talk, talk about her for a long time," said the song written by Paul de Kock in 1850 and performed by Yvette Guilbert. This song gave its name to the iconic Parisian cabaret. And it has been in the news for a long, long, long time.
An iconic cabaret
In the heart of Pigalle, Madame Arthur is a cabaret and club dedicated to French music. Opened after the war, it has seen famous showgirls such as Bambi and Coccinnelle perform on its stages. Serge Gainsbourg even played his first notes in public there.
Closed in 2010, the cabaret reopened in 2015, under the impetus of the team of the Divan du Monde, a neighbouring concert hall. While the place has retained its aged walls and rococo atmosphere, it is now a trendy party place in Paris.
Always a new programme
Every week from 8 to 10 p.m., from Thursday to Saturday, a brand new show is offered. Musicians, singers and comedians share their love of French song. With provocation and derision, the troupe of transvestites explores a variety of genres, from Madonna to politics, from Disney to opera.
The temple of Parisian nights
Don’t leave when the show ends! Because the whole night is yours. On Fridays and Saturdays, at 10 p.m., Guigui Pop hosts his now famous blind test on French songs: the French-Test.
Then, from 11 p.m., a singing tour is presented. Intimate and enchanting, this moment brings together the performers that had already captivated you during the early evening show.
Then, from 1 a.m. onward, you'll be dancing ’til the morning light. 3 rooms, 5 bars, and the best of French music remixed by resident DJs.
Everybody knows: To party in Paris, cabarets and casinos are the only places to go.
