Description

On your way to visit Montmartre ? Get off at the Anvers station and cross the square Louise Michel to enjoy a magnificent view of the basilique du Sacré-Cœur. A bucolic wooded park located along the Montmartre hill, this square seems to offer two faces: both an organized architecture and a real maze of small intimate paths.

The perspective of the square visible from the foot of the hill, allows you to admire the organization created around a series of gigantic white stairs leading to the basilica and ending with a monumental fountain by Paul Gasq dedicated to the sea gods. The alleys lining these stairs invite you to take a romantic and secret walk in the shade of remarkable trees. For those in a hurry, go to the edge of the square to take the funicular to get to the top of the hill in less than 2 minutes.

Designed just like the parc des Buttes-Chaumont with its waterfalls, its chaos of rocks and small caves, it is one of the largest green spaces in the north of the capital. It is a garden that is perfect for a relaxing family moment with its play area for children and its indispensable traditional merry-go-round that they will insist on climbing. At the top, it offers an unobstructed and emblematic view of Paris and regularly welcomes street artists who come to entertain the many walkers. Film fans will surely recognize this park in one of the scenes from the famous film Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain.

The square, which has changed its name several times since its creation, now bears the name of Louise Michel, an emblematic figure of the Paris Commune, a popular uprising of the capital's working class population in 1871 following France's defeat by Prussia.

Paris is still full of surprises!
