Description
There’s so much to do in the 1st arrondissement of Paris that you might walk past the galerie Véro-Dodat without even noticing it. The precise location of this beautiful covered walkway is between the jardin du Palais Royal, the musée du Louvre and the Bourse de Commerce, offering a peaceful break away from the hustle and bustle. Beneath its lovely glass roof, time seems to stand still. If you want to prolong this moment of exquisite pleasure, pop into the Véro-Dodat restaurant and tearoom for one of the most delicious experiences in the district.
A culinary gem
You’ll instantly appreciate the way Véro-Dodat boldly and subtly combines Belle Epoque style and modernity. Behind the ancient shop window decorated in patina paint and varnish, you'll be dazzled by this beautiful place designed by the architect Régis Botta. With its walls painted in deep grape purple, its electric-green glass features and its golden staircase, Véro-Dodat has almost as much sparkle as the district’s most beautiful jewellery shops. The long green-marble shelves display the establishment’s precious creations, from copious pastries to savoury flans and jars of foie gras. Indeed, the dishes prepared by Filipe Domingues, the chef of Véro-Dodat, can be savoured on the premises or taken away. The restaurant’s decidedly slow-food menu gives pride of place to dishes made from noble, local ingredients: flour from the mills of Versailles, painstakingly-selected fine foods, and organic products from the local region.
Lunch in a precious haven
To fully appreciate the delicacy of Véro-Dodat, book a table upstairs. The neon lights, gilt features and warm atmosphere give the setting the same delicious modernity as that offered in the menu. Filipe Domingues can cook vegetables like nobody else. Order the generously tasty courgette, aubergine and feta millefeuille and judge for yourself! But if it’s pastries you have a passion for, no worries, as this precious haven is also open for afternoon snacks. So you’ll be able to enjoy the exquisite flavour of a Nunshen tea (hard to find in the capital) to accompany a caramel tart with almond cream, or a creamy chocolate crunch…
