Le Caveau des Oubliettes
Description
The sign at the entrance sets the tone: welcome to a 15th-century medieval oubliette at the heart of historic Paris, a stone’s throw from Notre-Dame. Inside, you may be surprised to see an authentic guillotine as well as a few instruments of torture that appear to have been there forever. In the 12th-century cellar, which is open until 1.30 a.m., nearly all the concerts are free. But you have to order a drink.
###A resolutely jazzy lineup###
The musical lineup has a strong focus on modern jazz, with hints of groove, soul, fusion, funk and blues, and regular jam sessions on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. As the evening goes on and the atmosphere starts to take hold, various musicians join in with the jam leaders. Past participants include Keziah Jones, Lucky Peterson and even Prince. Often packed, the Caveau provides an intimate atmosphere for concerts that go on all night.
The Caveau des Oubliettes also offers a range of snacks, including platters and quiches, as well as an attractive wine and cocktail list. To quench your thirst during the Jam Sessions.
