Description
Milly-la-Forêt is famous for growing medicinal and aromatic plants. Particularly prominent in the 19th century, the tradition lives on today through L’Herbier de Milly-la-Forêt, the last remaining traditional producer of peppermint and a place steeped in history and unique know-how.
For over a century, and four generations, the Bosc-Bierne family have been distilling peppermint, lemon balm, thyme, camomile, hyssop and other plants and transforming them into cordials, sweets, herbal teas, essential oils, hydrolats, chocolates and spirits made in stills according to 19th century recipes. Organic and conventional agriculture and a host of flavours to be savoured in the eponymous store on the market square.
To find out more about the benefits of these medicinal and aromatic plants, head to the Conservatoire National des plantes, just a stone’s throw away.
Discover the Milly Herbarium on the occasion of a bucolic weekend around the house of Jean Cocteau.
