Description
Come and recharge your batteries in this 200-hectare forest, purchased by Joséphine, wife of Napoléon I, in 1800, linked to the Château de Malmaison and spanning a thousand hectares, all the way to the Bois de La Celle Saint Cloud. The Empress particularly appreciated this spot and would often take her guests there for carriage rides.
It was thanks to Joséphine’s grandson, Napoléon III, that the forest was saved from being broken up into smaller plots. Between 1870 and 1871, the Forest of Malmaison was the scene of sustained assaults from the artillerymen of Captain de Nisme during the Siege of Paris.
Today, it is an ideal walking spot, where numerous animal and plant species coexist in perfect harmony. Sunday strollers, seasoned cyclists, jogging enthusiasts and nature lovers are all welcome. L'étang de Saint-Cucufa is a delightfully relaxing lake where you can observe batracians and ducks going about their business amid rich and varied plant life.
The Forest of Malmaison: a haven of wildlife!
