Dries Van Noten

Could prêt-à-porter rival haute couture? With his masterful knack for producing beautiful clothes, Flemish fashion pioneer Dries Van Noten certainly thinks so.

Description

The son and grandson of Antwerp tailors, Dries Van Noten trained in the fashion section of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in that city, contributing to its growing reputation by joining forces with some talented classmates (Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck, etc.) to form the famous “Antwerp Six”, who in the late eighties were very much in the vanguard of European fashion.

A central figure in that group, Dries Van Noten created his own label in 1986 and arrived in Paris in 2007, very much through the front door: his boutique is located on the banks of the Seine, beside the Académie Française! The store’s proximity to the antique dealers of the Left Bank made choosing the décor easy: the place is positively brimming with antique furniture and objets d'art. A perfectly natural air of refinement for a designer who is passionate about craftsmanship: perfect tailoring, silky materials and dazzling prints are the hallmarks of his opulent wardrobe, characterised by a typically Flemish sense of moderation and balance. Elegance guaranteed for men and women alike…
