Description

The Chamarande estate is a perfect destination for a bucolic escape that will delight both nature and culture lovers. Located in an exceptional natural setting, in the Juine Valley, by the Forest of Belvédère, it is easily accessible from Paris by RER, with the park only a 5-minute walk from the station. The nearly 100-hectare estate, which holds the prestigious “Remarkable Garden” label awarded by the French Ministry of Culture, offers a wide range of different landscapes: from dense forests to prairies, river-bank walks, a 17th-century formal French garden and a 19th-century English garden.

Nature and culture

Part of the Chamarande estate’s unique appeal derives from the fact it is also an important artistic and cultural centre. In conjunction with the local departmental contemporary art fund, the FDAC, the château, park and orangery provide the setting for exhibitions and permanent installations of contemporary art throughout the year. Make sure you don’t miss Philippe Ramette’s monumental sculptures, which were specially conceived for the site.

Alongside the beautiful natural setting, the estate also holds architectural treasures: a Louis XIII-style château, built in 1654; the orangery, with its harmonious brick-and-stone façade; the Belvédère Pavilion, which offers sweeping views of the surrounding countryside; and the Ice House, one of the park’s curiosities, dating from 1740.
