Delta Museum
Description
What does a Concorde 02 have in common with a Caravelle, and a Mirage with a Mercure? The answer: all these aircraft have delta wings.
If you’re curious to know more, head to the Delta Museum just a few miles from Orly Airport. There, you’ll meet fascinating guides who will give you both the short and the long history of aviation. You’ll learn that one of the inventors of the delta wing was Nicolas Roland Payen, that it is named after its triangular shape, and – most importantly – that it revolutionised the aviation industry.
Technical and historical explanations are provided to help you appreciate the technological advances, along with different examples of aircraft. From the evolution of the cockpit to onboard equipment, transatlantic flights, the sound barrier, and even the concept and design of a plane, this is a no-holds-barred insight into the world of flight.
The museum currently has 6 different aircrafts, from the PA-100 – an experimental racing aircraft also designed by Payen – to the legendary Concorde 002 prototype that you’ll even get the pleasure of touring. To experience a transatlantic flight as if you were there, head to the pilot-operated simulator – a thrilling labour of love.
The National Air and Space Museum is also worth a visit.
