Description
The Fondation Louis Vuitton is hosting an exceptional exhibition dedicated to David Hockney, one of the most influential artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Entitled David Hockney 25, this retrospective covers seven decades of artistic creation, from 1955 to 2025, and brings together more than 400 works from international, institutional and private collections, as well as a major collection from the artist's studio and his foundation.
An immersion into Hockney's world
The British artist has personally overseen every aspect of this exhibition, in collaboration with his partner and studio manager, Jean-Pierre Gonçalves de Lima. It focuses on the last twenty-five years of his work, while including iconic pieces from his early days in the 1950s through to the 1970s. These include Portrait of My Father (1955), A Bigger Splash (1967) and Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures) (1972). It continues with major works from subsequent decades, such as A Bigger Grand Canyon (1998) and Bigger Trees Near Warter (2007).
This unprecedented retrospective offers an opportunity to admire an impressive variety of techniques and media used by Hockney: oil and acrylic paintings, ink, pencil and charcoal drawings, digital works (iPhone and iPad drawings, photographs) and immersive video installations. All these new techniques bear witness to the artist's creative genius and his constantly evolving body of work.
