Description

On the Place du Trocadéro, opposite the Eiffel Tower, the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine takes up an entire wing of the Art Deco Palais de Chaillot. Here, you can explore 1,000 years of the built environment and follow a fascinating, condensed itinerary that explores the importance of urbanism and architecture and its impact on how we live.

Understanding architecture

In the Galerie des Moulages on the ground floor, thousands of casts and models give a sense of architecture’s vast scope. Entire sections from landmark buildings are on display – including cathedrals from Paris and Amiens, the Arc de triomphe and fortified castles. Original documents, videos and multimedia stands all complement the visit and add to the learning experience.

Upstairs, the gallery of modern and contemporary architecture presents the work of the greatest French architects since 1850. Here, you can discover one of Le Corbusier’s Cité Radieuse apartments or the never-realised Endless Tower, conceived by Jean Nouvel, which would have been the tallest skyscraper in the world.

Temporary exhibitions bring an expert insight into architecture’s history and modern challenges. And don’t hesitate to bring all the family: special fun trails are organised for children, where they’re allowed to touch everything!

Keep going with the museums and cultural sites in Paris Region.
