Description
An integral part of the Meudon national forest, close to Paris and 400 metres from Clamart town centre, the 209-hectare Bois de Clamart woods are noted for their rugged terrain.
In addition to the chestnut trees which dominate the forest, other species can also be found here: common oak, sessile oak, beech, ash and hornbeam; plus cherry, birch, elm, holly and a number of conifers. In spring, the undergrowth is covered with wild hyacinths; in autumn, the leaves of the trees take on ochre and red tones.
The woods are scattered with many sites and curiosities, including the Pierre aux Moines menhir (a listed Historical Monument), the Sainte-Marie fountain, the Tapis vert grass avenue extending the terrace of the Château de Meudon; and the La Garenne pond, home to roach, perch, tench and carp.
Take a stroll along the hiking trails, dotted with remarkable trees, and absorb the cultural heritage as you enjoy an afternoon among the local greenery.
