Description
She who was named a ‘Visionary Artist’ by the New York Museum of Art & Design will be at the Fondation Cartier from 12 October 2024 to 16 March 2025. This major retrospective devoted to the Colombian artist, Olga de Amaral, is a great opportunity to discover the unique creations of this prominent figure in the world of Fibre Art.
A Fibre Art tribute
This is the first time Olga de Amaral’s creations are going on display at the Fondation Cartier. In 2018, six artworks from the Brumas series went on public display for the Southern Geometries exhibition. This is the biggest event ever devoted to the artist in Europe, a unique opportunity not to be missed this autumn.
Throughout the visit, you'll see some rather surprising textile installations. You’re used to seeing exhibitions of paintings, photographs or sculptures. Here, the artworks are based on woven strands, plaited threads and other fabric creations that won’t fail to catch the eye. The collection on display to visitors includes some historic artworks exhibited outside Colombia for the very first time, alongside more recent creations. All in a dazzling array of shapes and colours.
To show off Olga de Amaral’s art in its best light, the exhibition designer, Lina Gotmeh has put together an audacious and breathtaking display. The space strikes a balance using effects of contrast and scale to enhance the monumental textile installations, exhibited alongside smaller creations that make just as much impact.
Based on acrylic, fabric or clay, art is on display in the exhibitions of the Paris Region.
