Description

In the heart of Paris, the musée Guimet is hosting an exceptional exhibition from 5 March to 12 May 2025, plunging visitors into a decade marked by war and human resilience.

Entitled "Marc Riboud. Photographs from Vietnam 1966-1976", this exhibition commemorates the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War** and offers a poignant look at this tumultuous period through the eyes of the famous French photographer Marc Riboud**.

A moving journey through the lens of Marc Riboud

Marc Riboud, a member of the Magnum Photos agency, made ten trips to Vietnam between 1966 and 1976. His photographs capture not only the horrors of war, but also the daily lives of the Vietnamese people, and their courage and determination in the face of adversity. Unlike many war photographers, Riboud chose to focus on the life that goes on despite the destruction. His images show children playing in the streets, families gathering near bomb shelters, and workers in rice paddies and factories.

History in pictures: 1966 1976

The exhibition, organised in collaboration with the association Les amis de Marc Riboud, presents a selection of photographs and archive documents that retrace Riboud's journey in Vietnam. Among the works on display are emblematic images such as the young girl with a flower, taken during an anti-war demonstration in Washington in 1967, a universal symbol of the desire for peace.

By visiting this exhibition, we are invited to reflect on the human consequences of war and to admire a people's capacity for resilience. Riboud's photographs, imbued with sensitivity and humanity, remind us that even in the darkest moments, life always finds a way to go on.
