Description
From 20 November, strange dinosaurs will be invading the flowerbeds of the Jardin des plantes, right in the heart of Paris.
The Jurassic, an immersive walk in lights
For the sixth edition of its Festival Illuminated, the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle and its battalion of illuminated structures invite you to take a giant leap back in time over 200 million years, to discover the biodiversity of the Jurassic period.
Transform yourself into a modern-day palaeontologist for the duration of a sparkling evening, and set off on an extraordinary journey that will take you from the depths of the ocean to marshy environments and verdant valleys… to the heart of the Age of Reptiles.
Jurassic Illuminated' offers a glimpse of this rich diversity through an immersive tour featuring characteristic, spectacular and strange species: marine reptiles, life-size terrestrial and flying dinosaurs and the first mammals, many fossilised specimens of which can be found in the Paleontology and Comparative Anatomy Gallery in the Jardin des Plantes. The wow effect is guaranteed!
Explore the Jurassic through fascinating environments.
Explore the great depths of the Lower Jurassic, where impressive marine reptiles swim with ammonites and belemnites, surrounded by fish, crustaceans and radiolarians, those astonishing microorganisms that float in the currents.
Descend into the abysses of the Middle Jurassic where squid and other jellyfish reign before continuing your journey to the Mysterious Island of the Upper Jurassic where dinosaurs and pterosaurs defy the sky, joined by archaeopteryx, the ancestor of birds, while corals, crustaceans and fish inhabit the shallow waters.
Venture into the Upper Jurassic Valley of Wonders, where you're sure to come face to face with some of the most impressive dinosaurs.
Finally, explore an exotic swamp where the Jurassic gives way to the Cretaceous and where crocodiles, turtles, fish, amphibians and even mammals begin to proliferate, still under the watchful eye of the dinosaurs.
It's a truly sensory experience that raises awareness of the need to preserve biodiversity, while offering a moment of pure magic for the whole family over the Chrismas season.
As the year draws to a close, Paris Region will be lighting up to your delight. Discover its illuminated routes.
