Baiser Salé
Description
The Baiser Salé is a famous jazz club on the mythic Rue des Lombards, next door to the Duc des Lombards and not far from the Forum des Halles. Here, music comes above everything else, including the bar, since the small exposed brick concert venue is on the first floor!
The best of jazz fusion
Since 1984, Maria Rodriguez has been cooking up a mixture of fusion, afro-jazz and world music in a New York underground club atmosphere. Artists are given total freedom. Expect unbridled improvisation from some great jazz musicians between 9.30pm and 2am, in the company of a loyal, multicultural crowd.
We’ve lost count of the number of talented musicians who have started out here: the Ultramarine combo, the virtuoso guitarists Sylvain Luc and Etienne M'Bappé, singer Angélique Kidjo. The fevered Monday night jam sessions conducted by the drummer François Constantin have become a legendary gathering for amateur musicians (entry is free).
Even if you are not a jazz fanatic, the bar is still a drawcard, with its beautiful terrace giving onto the famous Rue des Lombards pedestrian street, its cosy interior and horseshoe-shaped bar, and the friendly banter between musicians and regulars which lasts until dawn!
