Description

Once the capital of the Counts of Gâtinais, the medieval city of Château-Landon is one of the most important locations in the history of France. It became a royal city in 1068, and its walls have welcomed prestigious royal figures such as Clovis I, Charles the Bald, Philip Augustus, Louis VII and Louis XIII, the father of Louis XIV. The home of the Counts of Anjou, it also hosted the ancestors of the Plantagenets who ruled over England for several centuries.

A rich medieval past

The remains of this rich historical past are still visible today. The Hôtel Dieu, Saint-Séverin Abbey, Notre-Dame Church and Saint-André and Madeleine towers will transport you back in time to the city’s golden years.
