Description
Inherited from the Knights Templar in the 12th century, the Carreau du Temple was, in turn, a place of pilgrimage, a market, the venue for the first Foire de Paris, and tennis courts, before becoming a hotspot for secondhand clothes seekers after World War I.
In 2014, Paris City Council breathed new life into this vast metallic market hall typical of the industrial architecture of the late 19th century, with plenty of wood and steel and feel-good golden shades.
Today, it is a 6500m2 hive of activity open to all audiences, with a rich, varied programme of events: design, fashion, technological innovations, plastic arts, live shows, sport, cuisine and social debates.
People come along to watch dance shows, to engage in their favourite sport, to have a drink and a bite to eat at the bar, or simply to take a break in the spacious, peaceful and welcoming sharing library.
While in the neighbourhood, take a stroll around the picturesque Marché des Enfants Rouges, which is a stone’s throw away.
