La Fab.
Description
agnès b., pioneer of the French Touch, is known for the simple, elegant lines of her clothing and her press-stud cardigans.
She is less well known as a patron and art collector, despite being a prolific accumulator of contemporary art who has over the last 40 years accumulated a diverse collection of around 5,000 pieces.
In early 2020, in order to share these riches with fellow art lovers, she opened La Fab., a 1,400 m2 space in a booming Paris quarter next door to the François Mitterrand presidential library. The location is imbued with her own character, and combines her collection of contemporary art, the galerie du jour and the librairie du jour under one roof.
Even the entrance to La Fab. bears her unmistakeable imprint. White in four different shades, stylised words written in black by her own hand, a zellige-tiled Moroccan bench… all the design cues that earned agnès b. her reputation are found in this “culturally and socially aware factory”, located on the lower two levels of a brand-new building which is also home to a daycare centre and 75 social housing units.
The ground floor is devoted to displaying the collection. The three annual exhibitions on the calendar set out the entire life story of this passionate art lover before our eyes. Photos, installations, videos, sculptures, street art… all these works reflect the creator’s world, meetings and friendships.
Continue the visit on the first floor, then linger in the galerie du jour, designed as a house in which everything is for sale, from the works on the wall to the design furniture dotted around.
Lastly, don’t leave without paying a visit to the librairie du jour, with its on-trend selection of works of art, and finding out more about the social and environmental projects supported by agnès b.
Make the most of your visit by exploring this fast-changing 13th arrondissement quarter, a real Mecca of street art and urban cultures.
