Description
From 11 December 2024 to 19 March 2025, the Grand Palais in Paris will be hosting an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota. Entitled ‘The Soul Trembles’, this retrospective is the largest ever devoted to the artist in France.
A renowned contemporary artist
Born in Osaka in 1972 and now living in Berlin, Chiharu Shiota is internationally renowned for her monumental installations made of intertwined woollen threads. These immersive works often envelop everyday objects, creating gigantic canvases that invite viewers on a dreamlike, introspective journey.
An immersive experience
The exhibition, co-organised with the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, covers more than 1,200 square metres in the restored galleries of the Grand Palais. It takes visitors deep into Shiota's poetic and sensitive universe, with seven large-scale installations, sculptures, photographs, drawings, performance videos and archival documents.
Chiharu Shiota's creations explore universal themes such as temporality, movement, memory and dreams. Inspired by her personal experiences, the artist weaves together the intimate and the universal, engaging both the body and the mind of visitors.
